Savion announced that Indiana Michigan Power (I&M), an operating company of American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP), has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to receive the total output of renewable solar power from Elkhart County Solar Project.
Located in Benton Township, Elkhart County Solar Project is projected to be a 100 MWac solar energy
generation facility planned for approximately 850 acres in Elkhart County, Indiana.
“I’m proud of our development team’s work to bring Elkhart County Solar Project to this benchmark.
This achievement would not have been possible without the support, time, and effort of the Elkhart
County community,” said Diana Scholtes, chief commercial officer for Savion. “We appreciate the
opportunity to be a part of Indiana Michigan Power’s ongoing strategy to accelerate clean and
sustainable renewable power.”
Estimated to go online in late 2025, the new solar power facility will be Savion’s first project to break
ground in Indiana.
“Indiana Michigan Power is pleased to work with Savion to provide more clean energy for our
customers,” said Steve Baker, I&M president, and chief operating officer. “Elkhart County Solar Project
will play an important role in I&M’s continued transition to cleaner, more diverse energy sources to best
serve our customers, the environment, and the economies of the communities we serve.”
In September 2022, Elkhart County Commissioners approved a rezoning application and the Economic
Development Agreement for Elkhart County Solar Project. The project is currently advancing through
the site diligence phase.
“Manufacturing is the lifeblood of the Elkhart County economy, and it requires a lot of electricity.
Having solar power generated right here in Elkhart County will help us further grow and diversify our
economy,” said Chris Stager, president, and chief executive officer of the Economic Development
Corporation of Elkhart County.
Elkhart County Solar Project is the second PPA between American Electric Power Company (AEP)
subsidiaries and a Savion-developed solar project. In October 2020, AEP’s competitive wholesale
subsidiary, AEP Energy Partners, signed a long-term PPA for Atlanta Farms Solar Project, a 200 MWac
solar project developed by Savion in Pickaway County, Ohio. Savion announced the Atlanta Farms
Solar Project sale to Dominion Energy in June 2022.
