Position Details
Savion is looking for an experienced Development Manager / Senior Development Manager to manage utility– scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects within the Central United States encompassing the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) and/or PJM Interconnection. The role will lead development of their projects from obtaining site control through permitting to the start of construction/notice to proceed. Reporting to the Central U.S. Regional Team Lead, the successful candidate will lead cross-functional project teams that consist of internal staff and external consultants with expertise in engineering, meteorology and resource assessment, permitting, environmental studies, real estate/title, and transmission. Previous experience in utility-scale solar and/or storage, and wind development is strongly preferred. Technical skills in the above listed areas aren’t necessary, but entrepreneurial, interpersonal, verbal/written communication, good judgment, project management, and leadership skills are.
Responsibilities
Act as team lead and lead developer as appropriate to accomplish:
- Creation and management of overall project strategy plans
- Project schedule, critical path, and critical issues management and reporting
- Site acquisition including landowner lease negotiations
- Coordination of local, state, and federal permitting processes
- Coordination of project environmental and wildlife studies
- Creation and management of a project public relations plan
- Project budget and cash flow projection, management and tracking
- Coordination of the project interconnection process
- Negotiation of local tax abatement/incentives
- Proactive coordination of preliminary project design / working with engineering and EPC teams to generate creative design solutions for complex project sites
- Support in the identification and screening of project opportunities
- Coordination of preliminary project design and pro forma financial model
- Support the negotiation of power purchase and asset sale agreements
- Participate and communicate with the team on relevant regulatory or legislative matters at the local or state level
- Must be willing to travel 30%+ of time
Job Requirements
- 4-year college degree required
- 5+ years development experience in the renewable energy industry required
- The Midwest Region (MISO and PJM) includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Specific states/territory are subject to change based on regional and corporate needs.
- Proven track record in full-cycle utility-scale project management and renewable energy contract negotiations
- Including taking at least one project through a financial close (Senior Development Manager)
- Local and/or state permitting experienced required
- Negotiation of tax abatement/incentive experienced preferred
- Knowledge of regional environmental and site permitting processes required
- Proven track record in utility scale project management and renewable energy contract negotiations
- Knowledge of renewable energy industry specific regulatory and legislative frameworks required
- Experience working with federal projects preferred
- Experience working with tribal nations preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, Power-Point, etc. required
- Microsoft Project, Primavera, or similar software experience preferred
- Leadership traits are key; must have the ability to successfully lead cross-functional and dynamic project teams in a matrix organization
