Savion announced the closed agreement to sell the 150 megawatt (MW) Cass County Solar Project to Ameren Missouri. The project, located in Cass County near Beardstown, Illinois, is expected to utilize up to 330,000 solar modules across approximately 1,700 acres, with approximately 600 acres outside the project fence to be vegetated and returned to farming use.

Savion obtained permit approval for the project in 2020 and began construction on the solar facility in June 2023. Ameren Missouri received approval and a certificate of convenience and necessity for the transaction from the Missouri Public Service Commission in June 2024 and is moving forward with the ownership transition of Cass County Solar Project.

“We extend congratulations and gratitude to our partner, Ameren Missouri, for the dedication to making Cass County Solar Project a reality,” said Nick Lincon, president of Savion. “It has been an exciting journey that required focused collaboration across both organizations to complete development on Savion’s first utility-scale solar project in Illinois. Our sincere appreciation to the local community, landowners, and stakeholders for their support.”

Construction is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2024. Approximately 250 local union jobs were created during the construction phase. Once built, Cass County Solar Project is expected to produce 150 MW of renewable solar energy that will serve the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) power grid. Based on the average annual use of Ameren Missouri customers, a project of this size is expected to produce enough energy to power approximately 27,500 homes annually.
