The Project

Martin County Solar Project is one of the first U.S. large-scale solar projects located on a former coal mine site in Appalachia. It is Savion’s first developed, constructed, owned, and operating project in Kentucky, and Savion’s second project to operate. Permitting for Martin began in 2020 with a Certificate of Construction secured from the Kentucky State Siting Board in late 2021. Construction started in October 2023 with operations beginning in January 2025. Martin interconnects into Kentucky Power’s Inez substation already located on-site as it quietly generates renewable energy during its 40-year lifespan.
