Internship Details
Savion is seeking a self-starting and highly motivated undergraduate student in civil engineering from an accredited university to fill an Engineering Department Summer Intern position starting in May 2026 and running to August 2026 with the possibility to extend the duration to December 2026. The candidate will complete a variety of tasks while being trained and mentored by our team of solar engineering experts. This position is open to all qualified individuals who desire to either work remotely or join Savion’s dynamic development team in our Kansas City office.
This position will likely require some travel to Kansas City, if remote, various project sites, public information meetings, and/or engineering summits across the United States.

Position Responsibilities
The candidate will report to an Engineering Manager and/or Project Engineer who are heavily involved in Savion’s development strategy related to its portfolio of existing and proposed utility-scale solar and energy storage projects. The candidate will support civil and structural design teams for utility scale PV/BESS projects ,under the guidance of senior team members, contribute to grading & drainage design, access roads design, erosion & sediment control, stormwater management, and PV foundation design while maintaining civil documentation and participate in QA/QC activities, permitting support, and site feasibility studies.
Job Responsibilities
- Project Engagement: Attend virtual or in-person project team-related calls and meetings with Savion developers and other team leaders.
- Assist with Core Civil Design Tasks: Contribute to site grading and drainage design, foundation/pile design, and/or stormwater management design under supervision; create PV and BESS site civil designs to include array/pile placement and BESS layouts, preliminary access roads and entry points, stormwater BMPs design and placement, PV array grading, BESS grading, and constraints mapping.
- Project Optimization: Aid in optimizing site layouts and land use on solar projects by contributing to constraints mapping, collaborating with GIS, and others to capture various designs.
- Engineering Support: Provide general support for engineering tasks, including layout creations, grading analysis, hydrology analysis, pile design analysis, and various exhibits. Support in preparation of civil exhibits used in permitting and land transactions. Support the team by attending in-person meetings as necessary.
- Document Management: Help organize and maintain the database of site details, civil specific design templates, and Basis of Design documents.
- Presentation: Summarize and present internship accomplishments and learnings.
Job Requirements
- Undergraduate student in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering required
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD,
- Working knowledge of Civil 3D, PVcase, Spile+ or LPile, HECRAS/HECHMS are a plus.
- Working knowledge of database systems, coding, and REVU is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft excel and other Microsoft products.
- Must have good analytical, decision-making, communication, creative problem-solving, and human relations skills.
- Must be organized, self-motivated and capable of working both independently and in group settings.
Location
Hybrid: Kansas City Missouri – Headquarters with monthly stipend for relocation to Kansas City for the duration of the summer internship
