Internship Details
Savion is seeking a self-starting and highly motivated undergraduate or graduate student in electrical or computer engineering from an accredited university to fill a Transmission and Interconnection Summer Intern position starting in May 2026 and running to August 2026 with the possibility to extend the duration to December 2026. The candidate will complete a variety of tasks, with a primary focus of developing Python scripts, while being trained and mentored by our team of generation interconnection experts. This position is open to all qualified individuals who desire to either work remotely or join Savion’s dynamic development team in our Kansas City office.

Position Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated Intern to support our Transmission team by developing Python-based scripts and software tools that automate and enhance power system technical studies. This role sits at the intersection of power systems engineering and software development, with hands-on exposure to industry-standard simulation tools.
The candidate will report to the Vice President of Transmission who is heavily involved in Savion’s development strategy related to its portfolio of existing and proposed utility-scale solar, energy storage, and large load projects. The candidate will work directly with the Transmission team and senior engineering staff to develop power systems analysis related scripts that support the GI study process by streamlining workflows, improving study efficiency, and building reusable analytical tools that interface with commercial power-system software and enhance power system technical studies. This role sits at the intersection of power systems engineering and software development, with hands-on exposure to industry-standard simulation tools.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop Python scripts and software tools to automate technical studies and engineering workflows
- Interface Python with power-system simulation tools including:
- PSS®E
- TARA
- PSCAD
- TSAT
- Automate tasks such as:
- Power flow execution and result extraction
- Contingency analysis and batch simulations
- Dynamic simulation setup, execution, and post-processing
- Data parsing, validation, and visualization
- Build modular, reusable, and well-documented Python code
- Assist in developing internal engineering utilities (GUIs, batch runners, reporting tools)
- Collaborate with engineers to translate technical study requirements into software solutions
- Debug, optimize, and maintain existing scripts and tools
- Perform in-house technical studies of the transmission grid utilizing engineering software such as PSS/E, PSS-MUST, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD, etc.
- Review Vendor Modeling information for accuracy and completeness
Position Requirements
- At least a junior level undergraduate student in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering required, preferably with an emphasis in power systems.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0
- Working knowledge of power systems modeling software is highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of database systems and Python coding is a must
- Working knowledge of interfacing Python environment with power system software tools is preferred.
- Working knowledge of AI process development and agent creation is highly preferred.
- Must have good analytical, decision-making, communication, creative problem-solving, and human relations skills.
- Must be organized, self-motivated and capable of working both independently and in group settings.
