Position Summary

The Savion Project Community Engagement Director (PCED) will be an integral part of the Marketing team by assisting in the development and execution of solar, energy storage, and future wind energy project marketing, public relations, and community communications. This role is both strategic and tactical in nature. The position will support the Project Development and Permitting teams by gaining intimate knowledge of the project communities, issues surrounding renewable energy, opportunities for positive media relations, milestones and obstacles for permitting, and creating and executing public relations strategies specific to each territory or project.

The PCED will be responsible for assisting in the creation of a multitude of regional marketing strategies and will then organize the action items required for successful plan execution. The overall goal of the position will be to implement campaigns that result in favorable attitudes towards renewables and Savion projects in host communities, substantial support from residents, identification of advocates, and overall positive public sentiment.

Roles and Functions (include but not limited to)

  • Work with the Savion Project Development and Permitting teams to identify the marketing, communications, and public relations needs and opportunities of each solar, wind, and energy storage project
  • Develop solid working relationships with cross functional counterparts and community constituents
  • Create profiles on each project community to identify applicable organizations, charities, events, schools, partnerships, associations, etc. that are influential in those areas
  • Ability to seek out external consultants, review proposals, negotiate contracts, and set/manage budgets
  • Work daily with vendors and consultants to ensure project direction, goals, and deliverables are met
  • Create media contact lists and work with the Marketing Department staff on outreach to cultivate media relations in each territory
  • Work with Savion Legislative and Regulatory Affairs and Public Affairs staff to be informed on state and regional stakeholder mapping and government official profiles
  • Work with consultants or with internal Savion resources on project-branded:
    • Social media platforms
    • Microsites
    • Print and digital advertising
    • Print and digital marketing materials
    • Direct mail campaigns
    • Community meetings and public events
    • Sponsorships and contributions
    • Swag and giveaways
    • Media relations and interviews
    • Advocacy outreach and support mobilization
    • Grassroots or grasstops campaigns
  • Review and manage communications, messaging, and correspondence for accuracy according to the company or project core messages
  • Monitor social media, Internet and specific publications where applicable
  • Support the Marketing Manager with the content and assets needed for all project-branded microsite, print and digital marketing assets
  • Conduct research, generate reports, pull data and implement fact-checking
  • Assist on project presentation preparation
  • Schedule and lead all related calls and meetings to ensure open communication across multiple groups
  • Generate calendars and track all events to ensure deadlines are met
  • Uphold the Savion and/or project-specific brand guidelines across all marketing channels
  • Monitor project-specific budgets and expenditures
  • Provide copy editing, proofing, and creative input
  • Participate in brainstorming meetings and sessions
  • Perform general administrative duties as required; including direct mailings, packing and shipping supplies to project sites; database work, etc.  
  • Serve as resource on additional or special projects as necessary
  • Travel to project locations to serve as on-the-ground support for the Developers, and represent the Savion Marketing team as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, media studies, marketing, communications, or public affairs; or 3+ years of professional, applicable work experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Previous work experience with projects with strong NIMBY opposition
  • Proven success in obtaining positive outcome from community relations work
  • Work experience in public and media relations
  • Work experience in writing blog posts and managing social media accounts
  • Skills in copy writing and proofing
  • Adaptable in being both strategic and tactical
  • High degree of independence while still functioning within a team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong attention to detail and a critical eye for quality
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively
  • Good judgement with the ability to make sound decisions and be flexible during constant change
  • Positive team player, capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines; able to take input and constructive criticism from multiple sources

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in the renewable energy industry a plus but not required
  • Work experience with communities and landowners hosting renewable energy projects
  • Familiarity with the process of integrating marketing campaigns across multiple channels
  • Work experience in project management and/or corporate marketing
  • Experience in developing and activating stakeholder communication campaigns
  • Work experience managing pollical campaigns, public affairs, or other development projects a plus but not required
