Job Purpose Statement

A key role within the Savion – Engineering, Procurement and Construction team focusing on the procurement and contracting dimensions of large-scale renewables projects with particular emphasis and focus on BESS.

Savion seeks a highly motivated Battery Storage Engineer with passion for renewable energy to join the EPC division of the Savion team.  The Battery Storage Engineer will report to the Senior Director – Engineering whilst also working closely with multiple parts of the overall EPC division and indeed wider Savion business.

The position will have primary focus on the preparation, review, negotiation and execution of the broad range of contracts required to support and deliver large-scale renewable projects with particular emphasis and focus on commercial scale Battery Energy Storage Systems. Kansas City area candidate preferred.

Accountability Statement

  • Evaluation of new energy storage project opportunities, developing technical and economic proposals.
  • Building and developing energy and cost savings models
  • Supporting and directing the design of system architecture for energy storage systems
  • Providing technical oversight and contribution to technical responses on energy storage measures and proposals
  • Evaluate emerging energy storage technologies – working with key project partners and vendors
  • Develop and vet technical, economic, and regulatory screening criteria for assessment of energy storage opportunities
  • Analyze and report project savings opportunity using industry recognized models and other analysis tools
  • Gather relevant project information and data, conduct engineering analysis to design system architecture and calculate project cost, savings and revenue opportunity
  • Support project development needs pertaining to storage and wider renewable energy projects
  • Support Electrical Engineers with Interconnect Application processes for energy storage systems
  • Identify registration and application requirements for participation in Ancillary Services and Energy Markets
  • Support and assist the bid processes of energy storage system procurement by developing scopes of work, developing requests for bids from energy storage vendors, and selecting technologies and vendors for project proposal
  • Contribute to technical writing of project proposals and responses to industry RFIs and RFPs
  • Support activity related to construction, operation and maintenance of energy storage systems as needed
  • Perform other duties as required

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related field with at least three year of post-secondary education
  • 5+ Years of Prior experience in Engineering or Project Development Role within Renewables sector
  • Prior experience working directly with energy storage and/or microgrid integrators and suppliers
  • Technical knowledge of energy storage supplier’s products and capabilities
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with Energy Storage Layouts, both containerized and free-standing building applications.
  • Familiarity with national fire codes and impact to energy storage system installations
  • Detail oriented with ability to work collaboratively with team members nearby and remotely Strong problem solving and analytical skill

Planning and Organization

  • Support and direct the resolution of a range of technical issues on projects.
  • Successfully manage the expectations of the Senior Director – Engineering with regards to project timescales
  • Advise the Senior Director – Engineering on the impact of commercial/specialist risks and issues and the viability of solutions recommended
  • Carefully consider and balance technical performance, contract requirements and provide recommendations, considering the relevant risks
  • Ensure that all recommendations are documented, and sufficient due diligence exists to support decisions (whether internal or external diligence)
  • Defend and stand by recommendations but also recognize when alternative solutions may be preferable
  • At short notice, act upon and deliver ad-hoc efforts and projects without losing focus on major ongoing projects
  • The Battery Storage Engineer will need to remain focused on the key project deliverables for each project whilst being adaptable to work within a flexible matrix operation, this may require working on several projects simultaneously

  • Regulations and markets knowledge and experience
  • Identify other grant and subsidy program availability from Utilities, Independent System Operators (ISOs), State and Federal Government and other sources
  • Kansas City area candidate preferred

Minimum Criterion (Mandatory)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related field with at least three year of post-secondary education
  • 5+ Years of Prior experience in Engineering or Project Development Role within Renewables sector
  • IT literate with the ability to operate MS office systems and other software
